“Little Girl Blue” Poetry by Prithvijeet Sinha

Hush! she is a spirit of fine fettle
clad in whole nine yards of mystique,
haunted by a gossamer fabric of heresy.
Maligned in her charm
The halo of an apparition,
she unfurls her midnight legend.

They say those Gothic figurines
register her presence.
Bylanes wallow in her dimming halo,
barks and howls are overpowered
as she marks her spot,
Her abode in the banyan tree's shadows.

The Blue Lady denounces articles of faith.
In these summer crests,
she sleeps on orphaned railway tracks.
Is teased by Dilkusha pebbles,
with mongrel squeals her consolation.
Is seen by the teenaged runaway,
flashing green eyes from train compartments.

Hush, here she springs a surprise,
eyeing a more mortal desire.
That curious commoner on a bicycle
He is the one she fancies,
a mortal lust seen in flesh and blood.

Hear!
the Clock Tower touts her hour,
Blue Lady declares her midnight manner.
A misunderstood wanderer,
groping his dusky instincts.

Both glisten in the river's pure nocturnal depths.
Twin spirits of fine fettle,
marking this rendezvous since years two-score.

  1. “Hear!
the Clock Tower touts her hour”

Yet, again, PJ, you bring us back to the “hour,” this time to “hush” and “hear” her hour. Is our hour “hear” or “here?” Will we know our hour by what we see or what we “hush” and “hear?” Or will we only know our hour by faith? Will it be “seen in flesh and blood” or only seen and known in Spirit? Maybe I should ask “the little girl Blue” instead of my dog named Blue. 😉 Your poem is beautiful and I love when a poem calls upon my physical senses in words as you use, e.g., “hush” and “hear,” because this reminds me of my spiritual senses that may not be afforded “hush” and “hear.” I may only know my hour has come when I can no longer “hush” and “hear” but only know it has come by my Spirit.

“Then Jesus told him, ‘Because you have seen me, you have believed; blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed'” (John 20:29). Blessed are those who have not “hush” and “hear” for they know Him by faith.

“for we walk by faith, not by sight” (2 Corinthians 5:7)

And I also know that I will not know my hour has come by my words I desire to utter, unfortunately, for my words will fail me at the time of my hour….and His!

Love and beautiful blessings for this beautiful poem,
    Timothy (Mr. T)
